Evacuation advice for Evenlode and Windrush

If you're a resident of Windrush or Evenlode high rise buildings read the evacuation guidance below or download and print the guide.

Fire in your flat

  • In the event of a fire in your flat, your smoke alarm and/or heat alarm will sound.
  • On hearing the alarm, everyone in your flat should leave the building immediately – close your front door behind you.
  • When outside call 999 and ask for the fire and rescue service.
  • A small fire will set off the sprinkler system in your flat and trigger a call to the fire and rescue service.
  • The fire and rescue Service will fully evacuate the building if required.

Note: No other residents will be alerted by your flat’s alarm or sprinklers.

Fire in the lift, lobby or staircase

  • If smoke is detected the alarm will sound on that floor, as well as one floor above and below. This alarm will trigger a call to the fire and rescue service.
  • If the smoke rises up the staircase further smoke detectors will activate and sound alarms on the affected floors.
  • On hearing an alarm you should leave the building immediately.

Note: You will only hear an alarm if your floor is affected. The fire should be contained and dealt with before it spreads. The whole block does not need to be evacuated. The fire and rescue service will fully evacuate the building if required. If the fire spreads closer to your floor the alarm will sound so you know to evacuate.

Be prepared

  • Please read the fire safety in high rise! leaflet. This will help you to reduce your fire risks and make your home safer.
  • Test your flat’s alarm weekly to make sure it’s working and report it as a repair if it isn’t.
  • There are signs on display in your building to tell you what to do in the event of a fire. Please make sure that you familiarise yourself with the instructions.
