Life Matters
Life Matters is a scheme aimed at 13 and 14 year olds who have been identified as being at risk of misuse of drugs and/or alcohol.
The students attend one day at the Franklin Vermeulen Safety Centre, Rewley Road where they are taught about the dangers of misusing drugs and alcohol and their effect on the body.
They learn about the effects that drugs and alcohol have on a person’s perception in relation to Fire or Road safety. The students are also taught about risky behaviours in relation to sexual health whilst under the influence.
At the end of the day the students sit a short exam and if they pass it they are awarded a certificate or accredited learning in Drugs & Alcohol.
The following partners are involved in the Life Matters scheme:
- Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire & Rescue Service
- Thames Valley Police
- Oxfordshire County Council’s Healthy Schools
- Oxfordshire County Council’s Integrated Youth Support Service
