Three kitchen fires in Banbury
During Sunday 15 January 2012, Oxfordshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service received reports of three separate kitchen fires in the Banbury area.
Two fire engines from Banbury Fire Station were sent to deal with the incidents at 4.40pm in Austin Road, Bodicote, at 5.27pm in Britannia Road and at 11.45pm in West Street.
After extinguishing the fires, crews then used high pressure fans to remove any remaining smoke from the premises.
Watch Manager John Callaway said: “On each occasion the occupiers had been alerted to the fire by the operation of smoke alarms, which enabled them to leave the premises safely and call the Fire and Rescue Service”.
Around two thirds of house fires start in the kitchen. A few points to remember are:
- never leave cooking unattended
- always keep your cooker clean
- keep tea towels and cloths away from your cooker
