Cooker fire fills house with smoke
On Saturday 18 February, two fire appliances from Banbury were called to reports of a fire at a house in Longleat Close, Banbury.
Fire crews arrived within five minutes of the call and found the house full of smoke and the cooker on fire in the kitchen, this was quickly extinguished by crews in breathing apparatus. Smoke was then cleared from the rest of the property using a high pressure fan.
Watch Manager Ford said: “It was fortunate that this incident occurred in the daytime as the occupiers smoke alarm was not working, if the fire had started at night this could have been considerably more devastating.
Cooking is the number one cause of fires in the home, remember never to leave cooking unattended, and clean the oven and grill regularly. He added that smoke alarms should be tested every week to ensure they will work effectively."
