Late night snack leads to early morning rescue
On Thursday 9 February at 4.09 am, Oxfordshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire alarm operating in a flat on Dashwood Road, Banbury.
One fire engine from Banbury was sent to investigate the cause.
On arrival the fire crew was met by the caller who informed them that the alarm was operating inside the flat and there was a strong smell of cooking fumes, but they had been unable to get an answer from the occupier.
Fire fighters then managed to rouse the sleeping resident and led her to safety from the smoke filled flat.
The fire had started in the grill pan because the resident had fallen asleep while cooking.
A high pressure fan was used to remove the smoke from the premises and the resident was given a check up by Oxfordshire Ambulance Service for the effects of smoke inhalation.
Simon Piper, who was one of the first fire fighters on the scene said: “ I would like this to be a reminder to everyone about the dangers of cooking when tired, fortunately on this occasion no one was seriously hurt”.
