Dog rescued from house fire in Banbury
At 3.14 pm on Sunday 4 December, Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of a house fire on Hereford Way in Banbury.
A neighbour had heard the smoke alarms operating in the house next door and could see smoke through the ground floor windows.
Two fire engines from Banbury were sent to the incident and on arrival met with the neighbour who informed them that the occupier was out but one of her dogs was missing.
Firefighters who entered the building discovered that the fire had been caused by a pan which had been left unattended on the cooker whilst the occupier had gone out.
Mabel, a 10 year old Yorkshire terrier, was hiding in her bed in the kitchen and she was carried out to fresh air. A high pressure fan was then used to remove the smoke from the premises.
When the occupier returned home shortly afterwards, she was given fire safety advice and a check of Mabel was recommended.
Watch Manager John Callaway said," I would like to remind everyone to ensure that they do not leave cooking unattended, even for just a minute. My thanks go to the neighbour who investigated and then quickly called the Fire and Rescue Service. Fortunately on this occasion the fire was contained to the pan."
