Garage fire in Bicester
Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were called at approximately 12:46am hours on Sunday the 29 January 2012 to a report of a garage involved in fire in the Wye Close area of Bicester.
Three fire engines, two from Bicester and one from Deddington were mobilised and arrived on the scene within minutes of receiving the call.
On arrival fire crews were met with a developing fire involving a garage in the middle of a block of garages. Initially it was suspected that the fire was spreading and threatening to engulf the whole block.
Fortunately, due to the rapid intervention of fire crews at the scene and the early call to the fire and rescue service by an off duty firefighter, crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading into any adjoining garages.
Fire crews worked hard using six sets of Breathing Apparatus and three main fire fighting water jets and quickly bought the blaze under control.
The incident commander, Watch Manager Paul Mann said: “An early call to the fire service enabled us to prevent the fire from spreading to any of the other garages within the block. At this time we are treating this incident as arson suspected and Thames Valley Police are investigating. I urge garage owners to ensure garages are left secured and locked when not in use to reduce the opportunity of this type of incident occurring.”
