Kitchen Fire in Banbury
At 2:28pm on Friday 2 December 2011, Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of a kitchen fire in Winchester Close Banbury.
Two fire engines from Banbury attended the incident and were met by the occupier on arrival, who confirmed that there was a fire involving their kitchen.
The two occupiers and their small child had already evacuated the premises after being alerted to the fire by their smoke alarm operating.
Two fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a fire fighting hose quickly extinguished the fire shortly after their arrival.
Station manager Matthew Morgan said: "This fire highlights the need to have smoke alarms correctly sited and to test them weekly, as these smoke alarms gave this family early warning and they were able to escape unharmed."
