Person rescued from house fire

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a fire at Bulan road in Oxford at around 8:45pm on Wednesday 28 of December 2011.

Two Fire Appliances from the Slade Fire Station and an appliance from Rewley Road attended the scene.

On arrival crews were met with a smoke filled house and people escaping from the windows of the property. One person was trapped in a first floor bedroom and had to be rescued by the fire service from the first floor window using a ladder.

Fire crews wearing Breathing Apparatus then entered the building and quickly extinguished a fire in the hallway using high pressure hose reel water jets. The crews had to carry out a through search of the property to ascertain that there were no further people inside.

The Fire service was assisted by the British Red Cross Emergency Support Service who assisted with the welfare of the residents of the property.

Four residents including two infants were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

Station Manager Gary D'Anger said: “The occupants of this property were extremely lucky to escape without serious injury. The immediate call to the fire service by one of the residents together with a rapid response and attendance by the fire service prevented this incident developing further and resulting in severe injuries or fatalities."
