Neighbour wakes sleeping couple as fire spreads through their roof
Oxfordshire County Council Fire & Rescue Service were called to a shed fire at Parklands Banbury at approximately 0230hrs on Saturday 5th November 2011.
Two fire engines from Banbury and one from Deddington attended the fire, supported by the Red Cross with the Fire Victim Support Unit from Oxford.
On arrival it became immediately clear that the fire had spread from the shed into the roof of the home.
Fire fighters wearing Breathing Apparatus quickly entered the house and discovered that the whole roof was engulfed in flames. The fire Fighters used high pressure hose reel jets to quickly extinguish the flames, this quick action prevented further spread of flames to adjoining properties.
Incident Commander Matt Davies said “The neighbour heard the fire developing in his neighbours shed and immediately roused them from their sleep. The fire started in the garden shed that was positioned right up against the house. I would advise all house holders to take some time to look at their own homes and what is stored against the house. I would advise that combustibles are placed a safe distance away in case they were to catch fire.”
