Finger of two year old boy released from kitchen sink

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service were called to reports of a two year old boy with his finger stuck in the plug hole of a kitchen sink at around 1330 hours on Wednesday 9th November.

One fire appliance from Abingdon and the rescue tender from Kidlington attended the house in Kennington where they used special saws to open up the waste unit of the sink.

With the metal plug hole removed from the sink, the boy was able to be transported to hospital by Ambulance.

The rescue tender attended the JR with the ambulance to assist the surgery team to remove the remainder of the plug hole.

Station Manager David Bray said “the little boy was understandably agitated by the time we had got the plug hole cut out of the sink, so our only option was to get him to hospital so that the remainder of the sink could be removed under general anaesthetic, as his finger was well and truly stuck”.

The surgery team were able to use a special metal cutter to snip the plug hole off his finger. The surgeons reported that the boy will make a full recovery.
