Lucky escape for two motorists
At 6.53pm on Thursday 22 December, Oxfordshire County Councils Fire and Rescue Service were called to a report of a Road Traffic Collision on the Northbound carriageway of the M40 Motorway, approximately 2 miles from Junction 12.
Two Fire Engines from Banbury and a Specialist Rescue Vehicle from Kidlington were mobilised to the incident. On arrival they discovered a single vehicle which had left the carriageway and had come to rest on its side up the embankment. Two persons were trapped inside the vehicle.
Fire Service personnel used stabilisation and cutting equipment to gain access and were then assisted by Ambulance Crews to safely remove the casualties. They were then treated at the scene before being transferred by Ambulance to the Horton Hospital, Banbury. Warwickshire Police are investigating the cause of the collision.
Mandy Rigault, Oxfordshire County Council’s Fire and Rescue Service Road Safety Team Leader, said: “If you are travelling to family or friends to celebrate Christmas or New Year please allow extra time for your journey, drive for the conditions and don’t speed. Take regular breaks and if possible share the driving on long journeys. "
