MINI Plant Oxford and Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service exercise together
MINI Plant Oxford had a simulated explosion and fire on the 6th floor of the manufacturing plant at 19:30 on the evening on Tuesday 22 November.
30 firefighters from Plant Oxford, Rewley Road and Slade fire stations using breathing apparatus and a specialist hydraulic platform took part in this joint exercise. The exercise was to test the major incident plan and establish good working between the two organisations.
The incident commander Paul Webster, Station Manager Slade Fire Station, said: “This exercise is one of many Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue Service take part in within the community they work, to ensure that we can react to all emergency incidents we are called to. This was an excellent opportunity for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue to work closely with one of Oxfordshire’s leading manufacturing organisations.”
Dave Nevitt, responsible for fire prevention at Plant Oxford said: “This joint exercise with Oxfordshire Fire & Rescue was very useful for Plant Oxford, and was a great exercise to undertake. We hope that we can practice together more frequently, enabling the development of our skills and confidence, which in turn will create a relationship that will grow between our two organisations. By working together, this will ensure that should a major incident at Plant Oxford occur, it can be brought swiftly and professionally under control”.
